PAS today urged the Council of Rulers to intervene against the federal government decision to issue a sports betting licence.While handing a protest memorandum to the keeper of the rulers' seal Engku Ibrahim Engku Ngah (middle) at his office at the Istana Negara today, PAS vice president Mahfuz Omar said such a move would be detrimental for the youths.
The Federal Court has today struck out former Perak speaker V Sivakumar's notice of motion to set aside an earlier judgment made on April 9 last year. The April 9 ruling denied Sivakumar (left) the right to declare the state seats of three defected Pakatan Perak assemblypersons vacant and hence call for fresh elections.

Bandar Sibu faces a by-election upon the demise of BN parliamentarian Robert Lau Hoi Chew. Nomination has been set for 8 May while polling will be on 16 May. SUPP (Sarawak United People's Party) of Barisan Nasional is expected to face DAP in a keenly contested fight.

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong seeming to gloat at the speed with which the Federal government has fulfilled its by-election pledge of RM3 million to the Rasa Chinese school, asks the state government to do the same in keeping to its own promise.
